Producing and Considering Many Alternatives

Yesterday my nephews came for a visit and took away a chair I had just replaced. A gift from a friend, the small, upholstered rocker was just the right size for my short legs and a refuge for many years. Due to the cats using it as a launching pad, it came to the point where it would only rock forward. I moved the old chair out to the porch and pondered how and when I could let it go.

Fortunately, my nephews handled the problem for me!  While accepting a barely used office chair, my younger nephew offered to take the rocker and dispose of it for me! How lucky I was to have a problem resolved without any effort on my part! I wasn’t sure if I was happier that I didn’t have to solve the problem myself or being cared for by my nephews!

As an expert in the field of creativity, without the nephews, I would have discovered the answer of the chair by using specific creativity skills.

For this puzzle, one option would be Producing and Considering Many Alternatives. I could have made a list of my options, and maybe even divided it into free or paid options. Think of as many options as you can. You never know when an out-there idea might trigger a great solution!

Another skill I could have employed is Embracing the Challenge. While not on par with training for a marathon, it can sometimes take ingenuity to get rid of something that doesn’t fit into your car!

Embracing the challenge allows you to change what some might consider a challenge into an opportunity! In this case, instead of an impediment, finding a way to get rid of the chair can be viewed as an opportunity to reconnect with people you had forgotten had trucks, or to check in with your garbage man to see what services they offer!

Creativity always finds a way!
